Breathwork

I'm David Jackson a Master Instructor with the Oxygen Advantage working now as a breathwork coach. I'm a former professional rugby player, accredited UKSCA Strength & Conditioning coach, NASM performance enhancement & corrective exercise specialist on a mission to make breathwork a normal part of our everyday lives.

Having retrained my own breathing after a brain injury in 2013 forced me to retire from professional rugby, I’m passionate about helping others change the way they breathe to improve the way the feel, move and perform. I believe in breathwork there is something for everyone, having worked with professionals seeking better stress management or those suffering with anxiety to professional athletes looking to improve performance and everything in between. I know how your breath can impact all areas of our body and mind, which is why I'm so passionate about helping people use breathwork to fulfil their true potential. Having felt the benefits personally, I want to share it with others.

Breathing Basics

The basics of breathing focus on learning to use the nose as its was designed, in conjunction with correct use of the diaphragm and restoring our carbon dioxide tolerance to efficient levels for functional breathing. The video here shows you how to test your BOLT score which gives a measure of both your level of functional breathing and carbon dioxide tolerance.

To understand more about the importance of using your nose rather than your mouth for breathing read the blog in the link below.

Breathe Move Feel Perform

Have you ever wondered if you're breathing correctly? We've never been taught how to breath, right?

Have you ever thought about the potential impact of a movement pattern that happens up to 25,000 times a day whether you think about it and control it or not?

Breathing is a fundamental movement pattern. It can use a number of different muscles to facilitate breathing in a number of different ways. Not all of these are optional.

By returning to optimal breathing patterns which involves the nose, correct use of the diaphragm and articulation of our ribs as part of the rib cage. When we return to how we are supposed and designed to breath it can literally impact everything about you and your life.

It can change your posture, your movement and mobility, reduce pain, release tight muscles, optimise your use of oxygen and the ability to use carbon dioxide to facilitate more efficient gas exchanges and cardiovascular health and performance. We can also change the way you feel and manage your stress as well as improve how you digest your food and optimise your recovery during sleep.

Testimonials

Jon Hudson

The breathwork sessions with David greatly enhanced my understanding of the whole oxygen advantage philosophy. Having already read the book, being guided through breathing sessions face to face with an instructor massively sped up my progress.

Increases in BOLT score were apparent after only 1 week and a whole new world of breath holding was introduced. The sessions were calming and relaxed, leading to lower heart rates and the ability to lower stress levels. And who knew structured breath holds could lead to actual pb's in the gym too!

Rob Westra

With the guidance of Jacko I've already had great improvements in only two sessions, better bolt scores, longer max holds etc etc. These don't mean a lot in real term but what I've also noticed is better sleep, more energy through out the day, quicker recover after excursion and generally feeling more alert.

Jacko's knowledge and guidance is what makes the difference between stopping when you've got a little left in the tank or pushing through in a safe manner to reap those benefits. Clear instruction and accountability makes all the difference.
